A group of dedicated Minecraft players is recreating the city of New Jersey on a 1:1 scale. Ingenuity and hard work have always been cornerstones of the game. Minecraft features an expansive building system that has given players the opportunity to achieve their coolest build ideas, whether this is a replica of Hogwarts, an underwater wonderland, or a massive pirate ship. These builds can often take an entire year or more, even with many players working together.
Recently, Minecraft players have begun to expand their dreams and reach for new heights when it comes to construction and creation in the game. One project, announced last year, has players working on a 1:1 scale replica of the entire Earth. Previously thought impossible, players can now build to the scale of reality in Minecraft, thanks to new modding technologies. Now, projects by teams like Build The Earth New Jersey are possible, with true replication of the real world in the digital Minecraft realm.
The Minecraft build team, commonly known as BTE New Jersey, is aiming to recreate the entire American state of New Jersey in incredible 1:1 scale. The entire project is supposed to exist on a single Minecraft server, and the work began on April 19, 2020. Almost a year later, the team has grown tremendously and has been hard at work building New Jersey. BTE New Jersey now boasts 1,201 users, all working hard to bring the state to life.

If the rest of the build matches what has been achieved already, the project will solidify itself as one of the most impressive Minecraft builds out there. One exciting prospect of recreating New Jersey in Minecraft is that players won’t have to deal with the traffic on I-95, but can instead transport straight to the state’s greatest landmarks using in-game mechanisms. The structures already created, like Metlife Stadium and Pulaski Skyway, are extremely promising, but there is still a long way to go until the full beauty of New Jersey is replicated.
Building in Minecraft, whether in Creative mode or Survival mode, is a hard task. Building a real life structure on a 1:1 scale is even harder. New Jersey has many cities to replicate, too, which will make the BTE New Jersey project even more challenging. Jaw-dropping cityscapes in Minecraft have been built before, but those projects take years, even for just a single city. Maybe if more users join in the work will go faster, but the team certainly has its work cut out for it.
Someday, Minecraft players will be able to explore the college campuses and the many beautiful boardwalks of the Jersey Shore. Hopefully once this project is complete, fans won’t have to deal with something like a digital Bridgegate scandal preventing them from getting to work on time. Of course, a stop at a local in-game Wawa might make up for any traffic that BTE New Jersey chooses to replicate.
